As unfortunate as it may be, summer is finally coming to an end and fall is right around the corner. As the weather begins to get colder and we all start to spend more time indoors, we want to be sure that the environment we are spending a bunch of time in is clean. After all, a clean environment often makes for a happy mood and a happy life overall.
If you want to be sure that you enjoy the fall & winter season this year, we recommend that you follow these fall house cleaning tips outlined by our team at Dust Busters to thrive in a clean, open environment.
Clearing The Kitchen for Celebrations
While cold weather is one of the things that comes with the fall/winter season, another thing that becomes quite prevalent during this time period is that of celebrations. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are just a few of the many celebrations that take place during this time of year. And of course, as we know, with holiday celebrations comes lots of meals and cooking. Some important cleanings we recommend doing during this time to prepare include:
- Cleaning Out Your Fridge. While your oven and stove top will be doing a lot of the work to make these delicious holiday meals, a lot of this food will need to be stored weeks before in both the freezer and the fridge. Without the ample space in this appliance, you will be unable to safely store them. Because of this, we always advise that you completely clean out your fridge during your fall cleaning. This means getting rid of any old meals, leftovers or sauces and wiping down the shelves.
- Deep Cleaning Your Stove. Since your stove top and oven will also be used a lot during this time, it’s important these areas are thoroughly cleaned to avoid any risks of a fire. When food and gunk get stuck on/in your oven/stove top, it can put your safety at risk and generally mess with the effectiveness of your appliance.
- Cleaning Your Dishwasher. This may come as a surprise to some. After all, why would one have to clean an appliance that goes through so much soap and hot water? The truth is, since this machine works to clean all the gunk and grime off of your dishes, it can collect in the dishwasher and create unpleasant odours. It can also block off water flow, making it harder for dishes to be cleaned, and during a time where you’re washing huge loads of dishes this is the last thing you want. Make sure to clean out your dishwashers filter + wipe down the spray arms of your dishwasher if possible. You can even run your dishwasher on an empty cycle with some warm water, vinegar and baking soda to clean the entire machine out effectively.
Cleaning Out Your Garage
Now more than ever will be the best time to clean your garage. During the fall, the weather is not too hot and sticky but not too cold either— AKA the perfect time to be working outside! During your garage cleaning, be sure to open your garage door to get some natural light and air in. Be careful with items that you’ve propped up high inside of your garage: when taking these down from their spots, always use a professional ladder and climb your ladder safely to retrieve it.
When a garage gets a bit too cluttered, people will decide to have garage sales. As a matter of fact, the fall time is often the most common time of year to do garage sales. With this project, you can not only declutter your garage and get everything clean but make some money from it as well. We also recommend sweeping the floor of your garage once everything on the shelves has been cleaned, as there may be hazardous items scattered on the floor after a cleaning such as this (broken glass, metal, sharp wood, etc).
